Face, arms, and ankles enflamed by kwashiorkor. Little eyes with an unfathomable depth of sadness blinked open and closed reflecting fear of the unknown into which she was un-consentingly being carried into. Her skin was dry and taught, flaking off as nutrients started to reach those starved little cells and reduce the swelling in her 22 lbs / 33 inch body. Withdrawn and afraid, we called her Ti Poupe –little doll. She sat in the safety of a corner with serene beauty motionless and silent observing the world, as though speaking would only draw unwanted attention to herself. Interaction with someone from this hostile world would break the invisible barrier between herself and it.
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13: 34-35
Now - The Soft Hearted
Djenylove is as her name depicts very loving, kind, affectionate, and innocent, a beautiful gentle spirit. She is sweet and she is cautious. Djenylove is that gem that makes raising children easy. There isn’t a malicious bone in that little girl. Being close to her just makes you feel whole. She longs to belong, grabbing on to your arm or crawling into your lap. Djenylove’s sweet soft personality has not changed much. Though no longer afraid she remains cautious of her attachment to others, and sensitive to how people interact with her. Djenylove would never hurt a fly. It is as though she feels every other living creature mirrors her own fragile feelings and emotions, and she treats them with respect as such. She is creative and meticulous with great attention to detail. She loves to craft, especially with rainbow loom elastics and friendship bracelet floss. She adores glue and glitter, feathers, sequence, pink nails and pretty things. She’s very young at heart still even though her years have seen more than most in a lifetime. For those she trusts, there is nothing better in her book than cuddling up together and being read to in a quiet and peaceful environment.
