Meet Richardson

Little Richardson weighed in at 18lbs and was 29.5 inches tall. The smallest of the kids that came in that day, but not the youngest. He was 6yrs old. According to reports from a relief worker who had visited the orphanage in Kenscoff over the last 3 years Richardson had always been there but had never grown. His belly protruded, his skin drawn tight around it, while his knees, and cheeks were lined with wrinkles from malnutrition and severe weight loss. Richardson was withdrawn and afraid. He was intimidated by this new environment unsure of how to process and verbalize what he was feeling he would cry often throughout the day, and every night as he fell asleep.

Now - The Strong Willed One
Richardson’s defiance kept him alive. This boy survived because he refused to die. No 6 year old should weight 18 lbs! Sadly though years of malnutrition have taken a permanent toll on this sweet boy’s little body. At eleven years old Richardson is stands at 47 inches and has thickened up to weigh of 65 lbs! He struggles with severe learning disabilities, resulting in deep frustration and low self-confidence in the classroom. To deals with this challenge he acts out and has nominated himself the class clown and mischief-maker. This boy keeps his mama on her toes and reminds us daily of how full life can be! He is fun, loving, busy and trouble! We are thankful for that strong will that God gave him or we would not know this character today!
